The Butler Did It

In crime fiction, the murderer
is so often the butler
I wonder why on earth this is
Could it be the writer’s prejudice
against the humble, loyal manservant
I for one, am in no doubt “Jeeves is innocent!”

Jane was convivial
And she started a revival
With her glam rock band
An audience of 100’s she’d command
Performances of Suzi Quatro, Bowie and Marc Bolan hits
Mud and Sweet too. I have to say I loved her to bits
I went to her first 3 live gigs
She dreamed of one day making it big
But she never got discovered
Still, I was proud to call her my lover
Jane,’though you never got a record label
I’ll love you for as long as i’m able
Although your band didn’t get as far
as you’d have liked, to me, you’re a star!
And here’s me, a struggling artist
Looking for my big break too
I used to be a dreamer, now a realist
A toast to me and you
A future based on friendship and trust
Not platform boots, glitter and stardust
Jane, you’ve got my head in a whirl
Could just be that you’re my dream girl

Walkin’ Back To Happiness

Now, the 60’s were not “Apache”
on the 70’s musically
But there were still some great tunes
Yes, there were still some hum dingers
A time for party chicks and swingers
Helen Shapiro, Petula Clark, Jackie Del Shannon
The 60’s was the time of the pop revolution
“Where Do You Go To My Lovely?”,”A Whiter Shade Of Pale”
“I’m Alive”,”Lucifer Sam”.Afghan coats on sale
Carnaby st and San Francisco
The places to be seen don’t you know
The mini skirt, The mini car-Morecombe and Wise
I was born at the tail end of the 60’s
A completely different world there
Christine Keeler and The Profumo Affair
Muhammed Ali was in his prime back then
The Bay Of Pigs Invasion
Man.United winning the European Cup at Wembley
Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin on the moon
You can watch George Best’s exploits against Benfica on d.v.d
And “Heartbeat” coming to your t.v set, soon
The 1960’s-Psychedelic shirts
To listen to Hendrix now and then wouldn’t hurt
The 1960’s back in vogue!

From “Finest Worksong” to “New Test Leper” to “Orange Crush”
When R.E.M are in town there’s always a mad rush… see them
Michael Stipe, it’s blatantly obvious
That you sir, are a genius
I’d like to “Talk About The Passion” with you
On a street corner off New York’s 5th Avenue
R.E.M, what a band!

Everything Works In Fantasy

Everything works well in fantasy
Unlike tedious reality
Who needs reality game shows? Or the depressing news at 10
I’d love to lose myself in the Surrealist art world now and then
Superman can fly
What a great guy
And bullets bounce off of him
In fact nothing can kill Superman it seems
Won’t you lose yourself in the world of dreams
I fantasise all the time. It keeps me sane
When it’s freezing cold in London, i’m on a beach in Spain
In my head i’m a Euro Lottery winner
In reality i’m trying to save enough for dinner
Everything works in fantasy
So abandon reality
if you know what’s good or you
Don’t photograph monkeys in the zoo
Instead go roller skating with a Gnu
In my most decadent, hedonistic day dream
I’m swimming through a giant tub of Carte d’or ice cream
with David Beckham and Shakira
Forget snarl ups on the motorway. The fantasy world’s much nearer
And altogether much clearer
than a foggy day
trying to fight your way
passed people who drive better cars than you
So abandon reality-You know what to do
Forget that radio station tuned in to some boring debate
And live in Mister Bean’s world before it’s too late
The nightmare of reality why suffer your fate?
Everything works in fantasy
Now lead me to the “Magritte” gallery
Surrender to the world of escapism
So much more interesting than the gym
Fed up being pushed around every single day
I’m “Johnny Alpha-Strontium Dog” get out of my way!
Everything works in fantasy
Everything works in fantasy
No woman ever rejected me in my dreams
The fantasy world is exactly what it seems
And offers you a way out. A place to hide
So get in touch with your fantasy side
Everything works in fantasy
Remember that and you’ll feel free
Everything works in fantasy
You’ll realize that when you’re older
Everything works in fantasy
Reality is a broken down “Skoda”
Or a gas bill you just can’t pay
Everything works in fantasy.Try it for yourself today
John has a boring job as a Supermarket shelf stacker
But every day for a few minutes he’s a lion tamer
An Astronaut or Premiership footballer
It’s his coping mechanism
Surrender to the world of escapism
Everything works in fantasy
Reality is being bullied at school
Everyone telling you you’re worthless: a fool
Abandon reality.Don’t play by their rules
Everything works in fantasy
You’d better believe me
Everything works in fantasy
Everything works in fantasy…..
